It was in 2011 when we first fell in love with Bulgaria and all of its cultural heritage, we returned again and again before we decided that we wanted to invest in a home away from home in the sun. Bulgaria is a beautiful country full of vibrant and friendly people, great food and drink with some amazing landscapes and views most of which have remained untouched for hundreds of years. In 2012 we purchased Fort Lancelot a fantastic property in a small village directly in the centre of the only nature reserve in Bulgaria, offering a wide range of local shops, cafe’s, pubs and restaurants as well as many social and family activities all within a short drive of the property. Experience roman and ottoman empire history within the same day, from stone monasteries carved into the cliffs dating as far back as 1000 BC, visit the Roman ruins, explore the castle and the history museum all located just 20 mins from the house. If you have a head for heights then you must visit the stone set canyons of “Cherven”offering majestic views and jaw dropping scenery that must be seen in order to be appreciated.
Bulgaria is a mostly Christian country with two polar opposite generations, the elder generation who seem to live in a once forgotten world who still choose to use donkey and cart as their preferred method of transportation and then the contrasting outward facing generation next, who have embraced the western world driving the latest BMW and Mercedes Benz cars. Bulgarians are hardworking and when they have time they enjoy meeting up with friends and family in the busy towns and cities at the local bars and cafes’.
